How to effectively motivate yourself to learn a new language? Find motivation and start benefiting from your foreign language knowledge!
The key to success is choosing a language goal
Effective ways to learn English or a foreign language often involve organisation of your time and self-discipline. You can learn a language without any plan, which will also work, but the results will not be as good as with structured learning. In the case of such “chaotic education”, you are more likely to quit. So what can you do to make your goals help motivate you to work on your language?
Set your end language learning goal to find a motivation
Firstly, it’s worth establishing the goal you are striving for. Ask yourself if you need to learn a foreign language online or stationary because you plan to apply to a university abroad, find a better job, or maybe you do it for your own pleasure and satisfaction? Decide how you want to use the language – whether you just want to be able to communicate with people abroad or you aspire to find a better job or to go to a university abroad. This will show you what areas of language you want to focus on and will let you see what language skills you want to practice.

The value of setting a good learning schedule to effectively learn a foreign language by yourself or with a teacher
It’s also a good idea to make a study schedule that you will follow. Do not postpone learning for later, because the more you do it, the harder it will be for you to achieve your goal. Set regular study hours and stick to your schedule to develop routine. Adjust the time you spend on learning to your needs and preferences. If you are a night owl and the peace and quiet around you make everything easier for you, then educate yourself in the evenings. However, it is worth remembering that each organism has two daily intellectual heights – during their duration it is easier to focus and absorb new knowledge. According to research done by a clinical psychologist Dr. Michael Breus, the first one starts at 06:00 AM and lasts until about 1:30 PM, the next one starts around 3:30 PM and ends in the evening between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM. In the morning, between 9 AM and 1 PM, short-term memory works best for us. This is a good time to absorb new information. However, if we want to remember something for a longer time or practice something we learned earlier, it is better to do it in the afternoon – then long-term memory is activated.
It occurs that we can learn at many different times during the day. However, what is important, we also have 2 intellectual lows. The first is during the night. It usually occurs after 10:00 PM and lasts all night – it is a natural phenomenon that affects the body because it requires rest in the form of sleep. The second intellectual low, which we are often less aware of, is the one lasting from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. We often don’t see that we are losing awareness, because we are during work or studies. If you remember an interesting lesson or lecture which made you tired, or a significant meeting where you couldn’t focus, it is possible that it was during this time frame. It is worth choosing wisely the hours of study so that you can get the most benefit from it. Try to avoid setting for yourself long-term goals, taking smaller steps and celebrating them while learning will keep you motivated. Remember to not overwhelm yourself with too high expectations – making progress takes time. Plan your learning schedule and try to not postpone it. Remember to take regular breaks, because after a longer session of learning, you will get easily distracted and will have trouble focusing. You will benefit more from studying for less time but daily than all day, but rarely because you’ll be tired and you will struggle to focus and remembering the same amount of information will take much longer. Remember to repeat the acquired knowledge because thanks to that, it will stay in your memory for a longer time.
Learn a new foreign language or work on the one you already know in peaceful and comfortable place
Try to make your study place calm and comfortable. Make sure that no one interrupts you while you are learning the language. Make sure you are feeling cosy, you can make a cup of tea for yourself, and if the music doesn’t bother you in your studies, play your favorite playlist. It is more pleasant to work in a nice and quiet environment. Set aside all distractions so that they don’t divert your attention while working on a foreign language; mute and put your phone away, turn off the TV. Plan your next study sessions in such a way that you can focus only on learning. After you are done, you will have the opportunity to rest as much as you like and do other things. If you have problems with setting regular hours, you can try enrolling in our stationary courses in Warsaw or take part in online language school lessons. Your time is going to be spent efficiently and other activities or plans will be more attractive, because you will relax after the study session.
These tips may help you to effectively motivate yourself to learn or improve a foreign language. However, the most important thing is to find individual goals to keep in mind each time we start learning a new language. If you want to be sure that your language adventure is kept on the right track, you should consider enrolling in an individual online course.

Why should you consider learning a new language with e-learning platforms?
– E-learning platforms are perfect for people with a lot of activities, because they can choose the time they are learning;
– They can offer you learning possibilities from any place on earth – as long as you have an internet connection. You can learn from home, on the bus etc.;
– Thanks to them, you can save a huge amount of time devoted to organizing classic workshops or lessons/course with the teacher;
– In 2017, The Research Institute of America found that e-learning increases retention rates 25% to 60% while retention rates of face-to-face learning are very low in comparison: 8% to 10%. This is because with platform courses, students have more control over the learning process, as well as the opportunity to revisit the training as needed;
– They improve the process of providing information and communication, because you can find all the information about topics that you are learning directly on an e-learning platform. You can also often talk with other students in a language that you are both learning or with a native speaker;
– E-learning platforms give better insight into your progress and let you control which learning materials you want to use.
