The Pomodoro Technique – This method involves dividing your time into 25-minute periods of intense work, called “pomodoro” (“tomatoes” in italian) followed by a 5-minute break. After four pomodoros, you take a longer break, e.g. 15-30 minutes. This technique helps to maintain high concentration and reduces the risk of burnout.

The Cornell Method – This technique is based on systematic note-taking as you study. Divide your paper into three sections: one narrower to the left or right, a larger one next to it, and a third at the bottom. During a lesson or reading, write down the most important points in the larger section. Then, at the end of the lesson, summarize your notes in a narrower section and write questions in the lower section. This will make it easier to repeat the material.

The Feynman Method – Called after the well-known physicist Richard Feynman, this method consists of attempting to explain the topic to yourself, as if to another person – that is to take on the role of a teacher. Choose the topic that you need to understand, and imagine that you need to explain it to someone else. Do it by using easy, clear words. If you struggle to do so, come back to the source material and continue studying.

The Mnemonic Method – This technique uses associations and memorization techniques to make information easier to remember. You can create chains of associations, rhymes, visualize images or create acronyms (i.e. abbreviations – e.g. MFA – Ministry of Foreign Affairs) that will help you remember the information.

The Interactive Method – If you prefer to learn in a group this method is for you. You can form study sessions, student groups to  discuss and share information. Cooperation can help you understand the topic and learn from one another.
